The college's distance learning programs are part of an overall increase in emphasis on online education in Utah's state colleges and universities. Demand for online courses has increased exponentially since 2001, when about 1,200 students participated in distance learning courses. Eleven years later, that number has grown to approximately 12,000 students, according to the Deseret News.
