Virginia has many treasures. Some of them are the great water parks, romantic vacation spots, and a long and important history. But, there are also students in Virginia looking for money for college. Scholarships are very often the only way that some students will be able to afford to pay for their college educations. In the state of Virginia, there are certainly students who need scholarships. Student loans only pay for a limited amount of the cost, and freshmen receive less than upperclassmen. This means that to get to the point that students are eligible for more in federal student loans, which they must manage to pay for the first two years first. This can create quite a conundrum without scholarships. Very often, students will find that different states will offer scholarships that are not offered to students or residents in any other state. In the state of Virginia this is true like it is for anywhere else.

The Joint Action in Community Service Scholarship is available to students in Virginia who are residents of the state of Virginia and attending college in Virginia. This program is only open to graduates of the federally funded Job Corps. The purpose of the scholarship is to allow students to further their educations after they graduate from the Job Corps. The minimum award amount is $1000 and the maximum is unspecified. An essay is also required from the student, as well as transcripts. High school students are not considered for this scholarship.

The Robert C. Byrd Scholarship is available to students who are high school seniors. Students who are awarded the scholarship are selected based on their GPAs, standardized test scores, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activity, and community involvement. The application deadline is March 31. Students must be enrolled in school full time in order to fulfill the requirements of the scholarship. They must also be US citizens. The amount of the award ranges from $750 to $1500. This scholarship is open to students enrolled in two year and four year institutions as well as technical or trade schools.
