Rhode Island is more than a beautiful place with outstanding scenery. It is a place where students seek to pay for college. Scholarships are very often the only way that some students will be able to afford to pay for their college educations. In the state of Rhode Island, there are certainly students who need scholarships. Student loans only pay for a limited amount of the cost, and freshmen receive less than upperclassmen. This means that to get to the point that students are eligible for more in federal student loans, which they must manage to pay for the first two years first. This can create quite a conundrum without scholarships. Very often, students will find that different states will offer scholarships that are not offered to students or residents in any other state. In the state of Rhode Island this is true like it is for anywhere else.
Rhode Island students can receive the College Bound Fund Academic Promise scholarship. Students who are awarded this scholarship receive a total of $10,000 dollars to be dispensed in payments of $2500 per year for four years. This scholarship is meant to reward students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement. It is not need based, and is available for students who are high school seniors approaching college. Over seven hundred students have received this scholarship since its inception.
Another choice for students in Rhode Island is the Rhode Island Higher Education Grant Program. This award is available to students who are residents of the state of Rhode Island, and are either US citizens or resident aliens. Students can use this grant to attend schools at any approved institution in the US, Canada, or Mexico. The award can be renewed for up to four years. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress. High school students are not considered for this award. Award amounts will vary from $300 to $1400 per year. This is based on need, and over $6,000,000 was awarded to students last year through this program.
