Oregon is a place that people can lose themselves on white water or hiking adventures. However, Oregon is not just an adventurer’s wonderland. It is also a place that students have to find money for college. Scholarships are very often the only way that some students will be able to afford to pay for their college educations. In the state of Oregon, there are certainly students who need scholarships. Student loans only pay for a limited amount of the cost, and freshmen receive less than upperclassmen. This means that to get to the point that students are eligible for more in federal student loans, which they must manage to pay for the first two years first. This can create quite a conundrum without scholarships. Very often, students will find that different states will offer scholarships that are not offered to students or residents in any other state. In the state of Oregon this is true like it is for anywhere else.
Oregon offers students a chance to fund college through the Oregon Opportunity Grant. This funding is available to students who are residents of the state of Oregon, who are US citizens, and who demonstrate proper financial need. This grant can be used at a two or four year college. It is only available to students who do not have any illegal drug charges against them. They cannot be in default on any student loans, and they must maintain satisfactory academic progress. It is only available for eight semesters or twelve terms. Students must be in a degree granting program.
Oregon students may also be interested in the Federal Robert C. Byrd Program Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students in Oregon who are residents of Oregon and attending college in Oregon. Oregon high school seniors who have a 3.85 GPA are eligible. Oregon GED recipients with a GED score of 3300 or higher are also eligible. This program awards nearly $1,000,000 per year. Recipients receive $1500 per year for up to four years.
