New York is full of beautiful terrain and bright lights. Students in New York have the best of city and country life to distract them from the hard work of academics. Yet, people in New York still make it to class. For those students who can maintain an academic life, they might need scholarships. Scholarships are very often the only way that some students will be able to afford to pay for their college educations. In the state of New York, there are certainly students who need scholarships. Student loans only pay for a limited amount of the cost, and freshmen receive less than upperclassmen. This means that to get to the point that students are eligible for more in federal student loans, which they must manage to pay for the first two years first. This can create quite a conundrum without scholarships. Very often, students will find that different states will offer scholarships that are not offered to students or residents in any other state. In the state of New York this is true like it is for anywhere else.

The Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarship is available to students in New York State. These students must be in a program that grants a license for some professional area at an institution in New York. It is specifically for students who are interested in pursuing some kind of professional licensure. Whether it is a law degree or an acupuncturist license, students must also be a member of some minority group. Awards are given to students for up to $5000 per year. The amount of the award cannot exceed the cost of tuition.

Students in New York can also look for the New York State World Trace Center Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is meant to ensure that students who were financially dependent on a victim of the World Trade Center attacks are able to attend college. Those who were dependents of those who were killed or injured at the Pentagon, on one of the planes, or involved in the rescue and recovery mission are eligible. Students eligible for this scholarship will receive $12,000 per year to pay for college.
