Minnesota Scholarships

Perhaps the most difficult part of obtaining either a college or university degree is not the studying and hard work itself but the actual cost of obtaining such an opportunity. Whether you are from a lower to middle income family or simply trying to upgrade your education as an adult on your own the financial burden of earning a college degree can be enormous. This is where the benefit of student financial aid becomes most apparent. Without it, it would impossible for thousands of qualified people to either enter or return to university to further their education. When looking for assistance in the state of Minnesota, one needs to look no further than the hundreds of Minnesota scholarships that are available to students across the state.

One of the most prominent of Minnesota scholarships is the Minnesota State Grant Program which has a mandate of providing assistance to up to seventy five thousand college and university students per year. In the last calendar year alone almost seventy three thousand students received grants and scholarships totaling over one hundred and thirty three million dollars. The Minnesota State Grant Program is for students who wish to attend qualifying universities as well as two year and four year college programs. It is a need-based program for Minnesota residents who wish to attend Minnesota colleges. Students receiving this grant are responsible for covering forty six percent of costs with the remainder being covered by Pell Grant, parent contribution, and state grants. High school students are not eligible for this scholarship and applicants must be United States citizens over the age of seventeen. A financial needs analysis is required alongside the application with the minimum award amount being one hundred dollars. The maximum award amount is just under seven thousand seven hundred dollars.

This is just one of the many Minnesota scholarships that are available across the state when considering attending one of Minnesota’s many universities or colleges. By applying early for those scholarships that you may be eligible for the chances of receiving the highest amount of student financial aid are increased dramatically. With that in mind make sure to apply early and to as many scholarship funds that are applicable to you.
