Students in Maryland have a variety of options available to them when it comes to receiving financial aid in the pursuit of a higher education. With hundreds of Maryland scholarships available each and every year, the competition for such is often fierce but the effort in attaining these is certainly worthwhile. There are grants and loans that are available in specific degrees of study but there are also a large number of scholarships available to those seeking a non specialized degree. Two of these awards are the Maryland Educational Assistance Grant and the Maryland Guaranteed Access Grant.
The first of the Maryland scholarships mentioned above is the Maryland Educational Assistance Grant which is available to four year and two year college students as well as those attending Maryland universities. It is awarded to full time students who are Maryland residents and can be maintained by earning a 2.0 GPA throughout your college years. The maximum scholarship available is twenty seven hundred dollars with over thirty two million dollars being awarded during the past calendar year.
Another of the Maryland scholarships that is increasingly popular is the Maryland Guaranteed Access Grant which funds up to one thousand students annually. During the past twelve months awards totaled almost five million dollars with 861 students receiving aid. The minimum amount awarded is four hundred dollars with the maximum scholarship being an extremely high eleven thousand and six hundred dollars. The Guaranteed Access Grant is awarded to Maryland residents who are enrolled in an undergraduate program in Maryland on a full time basis. All applicants must be under the age of twenty two at the time of award and must also begin college within one year of graduating from high school. A minimum 2.5 GPA in high school is required with family income not to exceed one hundred and thirty percent of the federal poverty guideline. This scholarship is available to full time students who are citizens of the United States. As with most similar awards a financial needs analysis and transcript of marks are required in order to be eligible for this Maryland scholarship.
