While some students are not concerned about how their college or university education will be funded because they come from families than can afford the expense, many are concerned about how they can pay for their education. There are many expenses that will occur during a post-secondary education although tuition is likely to be the largest expense. There will also be books to buys, equipment, and housing, among other things. Connecticut scholarships are one of the ways that students can eliminate some of the financial expense related to education. In the state of Connecticut there are many scholarships available and students should not have a problem finding one that is suited to their needs; however, there is a large degree of competition that resolves around obtaining a scholarships so students must work hard.
The Connecticut Department of Education makes several scholarships available to hard working students. One of these scholarships is the Capitol Scholarship Program. This scholarships can be used at colleges and universities with two or four year programs and is available to citizens of the United State who are residents of Connecticut or surrounding states (Washington, Delaware, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, or New Hampshire). Ideal applicants have SAT scores of no less than 1200 and are in the top 20% of their class. This scholarship is designed for students who have a financial need so applicants must submit a financial need analysis with their application form. Those who receive awards for this scholarship can receive up to $2,000 and up to 3,000 students may receive this award every year.
The Connecticut Independent College Student Grants may also be of interest to students who wish to decrease their out of pocket expenses while at college or university. Applicants to this grant must be attending a college or university within the state and must be attending at least half-time. This scholarship that is based on financial need is renewable. Students are advised to contact their Financial Aid office on campus for more information and for application forms. Those who receive this award are eligible to obtain amounts up to $7,700.
