In the state of Arkansas there are many opportunities for students with financial need who can show that they have academic skills that can transfer to a post-secondary education. There are many Arkansas scholarships, some of which are needs based and other which are based on merit. These scholarships allow students to pursue their dreams even when it is challenging financially.
The Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship Program is one of those programs. This scholarship allows up to 7,548 students with financial need to attend an Arkansas institute of higher learning. Applicants must be high school students or going into their first year of university or college and they must be United States citizens. Applicants must meet the minimum acceptable levels on the ACT tests and have no lower than a 2.75 GPA. This scholarship is renewable for up to three years. Recipients of this award may receive between $2,000 and $3,000. Along with the application form, applicants should supply test scores and transcripts and financial need analysis.
The Arkansas Student Assistance Grant Program is another scholarship that is meant for students that have financial need. Students must be attending a two year or four year program at a university or college within the state. Applicants must be full time students and no longer attending high school and they must be citizens of the United States. Up to 5,500 awards are given out with a minimum amount of $600. A financial need analysis must be included with the application form.
There are many other scholarships that students may wish to apply for in the state of Arkansas. Arkansas scholarships may be applicable to specific fields or the may be for specific degrees. There are also scholarships, like the ones above that are for students who have financial need, as well as scholarships for minority students, students with disabilities, or students from families who have had a family member die while in service with the military.
