Alaskan Students will find that the amount of time needed for post-secondary studies is great, just as it is at any other university or college, and they may find themselves pressed for time if they need to hold a part-time job while they are attending school. To relieve some of the financial stresses of attending college or university, students can apply for Alaska scholarships to relieve some of the stress. There are many scholarships to choose from. Some apply to anyone who is attending an Alaskan university or college while others are for specific groups.
One of the Alaska scholarships that they can apply for is the President's Forum Scholarships. This scholarship is for any student that has completed at least one year of studies at the Alaska Pacific University and has maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Along with the application, students should include either a paper with answers to a selection of pre-chosen questions or an essay of up to 500 words that details their background and their educational objectives. They should not include both. They should also include transcripts from all institutions of higher learning that they have attended and something from their portfolio that demonstrates their skills and capabilities (this should not be a resume). Applicants should show personal initiative beyond their GPA. This can be leadership qualities, performed community services, or participation in research. Recipients of this scholarship can receive amounts up to $4,000.
Alaskan Native students can apply for the CIRI Foundation for a selection of Alaska scholarships that apply to both undergraduate and graduate studies as well as students who are taking technical or vocational studies. Recipients can receive anywhere from $2,500 to $10,000. Some of these Alaska Scholarships can be used in other States as well.
Alaska students can also choose from a selection of scholarships that apply directly to their chosen field such as geology, teaching, or the sciences. There are also scholarships that apply to specific communities and minority groups. No matter which scholarship students apply for they will find that being the recipient of an Alaska scholarship will make it much easier for them to dedicate time towards their studies.
