Musicians get very involved in their art and they are equally involved in their learning. Getting a degree in the arts field is more and more expensive in our day and many talented students are unable to afford the costs of tuition, housing, instruments, and books. Music scholarships can be helpful to the musician in training and when scholarships are available, talent young musicians are encouraged to follow their dreams. There are many music scholarships that are available for specific music schools, while other scholarships can be applied at any approved school of music.
One scholarship that can be applied at any approved learning institute is the Coca-Cola Scholars Program which offers scholarships to secondary students throughout the United States. Each year 250 four year scholarships are given to deserving student. Eligible students are those that are in their senior year of high school and plan on attending a post-secondary institution. The must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA by the end of their senior year and must not be related to employees, owners, or offices or Coca-Cola or any of its related companies. Recipients of the awards can receive anywhere from $4,000 to $20,000.
The Glenn Miller Scholarship Competition is another opportunity for aspiring musicians. Both instrumentalists and vocalists are eligible to apply for this competitions and the award can be applied to any educational institute. This competition is not just for pop musicians but has the purpose of honoring Glenn Miller by seeking out and supporting promising young talent and encouraging them in their pursuits. The scholarships are awarded to high school senior and first year college students. Applicants will need to submit an audition tape or CD and if selected as a finalist, will be expected to perform in the finalist's competition. The recipients of this award will receive and amount between $1,000 and $3,000.
Without music scholarships like these, talented musicians that have little accessibility to funding may never have the opportunity to explore their talents. Thanks to scholarships, many young musicians are able to grow and develop the raw talent that they already have.
