Minority Scholarships

Minority Scholarship often allow students who would not otherwise be able to, to get educations that can help them change their lives. While many minority families are able to pay for education, others struggle to have the funds to make sure their children can get a good education. They still have to work hard but a minority scholarship can ease the financial burden and enable student to concentrate on being successful in college.

State Farm Insurance provides funding for four scholarships, three of which are for minorities. One of these scholarships is for the American Indian College Fund and helps support native students who wish to attend tribal colleges. State Farm Insurance also provides funding for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and the National Merit Scholarship Foundation. These minority scholarships give minority students the options and choices to explore careers that many have been out of reach to them in past.

The McNair Scholars Program also provides a scholarship for low income, minority students. Any African American, Hispanic-Latino, Native American and Alaskan, or Pacific Islander/Hawaiian student who is from a low income family as defined by the US Department of Education can apply. The must have a 3.0 or higher GPA and be in pursuit of a PhD. Students who are first generation college students are also applicable.

As well, the Gates Millenium Scholarships provides scholarships to outstanding students who demonstrate financial need and are interested in any discipline. They must demonstrate leadership skills and have a minimum of a 3.3 GPA.

Minority scholarships are available for students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree or for those entering Graduate Studies. They can choose to enter into degree of the Arts, Sciences, or any specialty within. When students that previously have not had the opportunity to pursue a secondary education are exposed to more options it helps them become outstanding members within their community. It helps them to learn about ways to make improvements in their own lives and in the communities that they live and work. And it gives them the opportunity to mentor young people that come into their lives.
