Students who want to enter into the culinary arts often find that they are short of the funds that they need to pay for the education they need. Culinary scholarships can help students fund their education, as well as handle other expenses that come about when they are pursuing a career in the culinary arts.
One of the culinary scholarships that is available to students who wish to study in this field is The James Beard Foundation Scholarship Foundation. Their mission is to "preserve and nurture America's culinary heritage and diversity." One of the ways they do this is through scholarships. Guidelines and an application for will be available on April 1, 2008 to apply for the 2008 school year.
The Culinary Trust also makes scholarships available to student who are pursuing a culinary career. They give out approximately $140,000 each year to students who have been selected for scholarships. They come in the form of cash or tuition-based scholarships and can cover various expenses. The selection process is based on merit, not financial need. Applicants must have two years of experience in the food service industry (either as a volunteer or as paid work) and a 3.0 GPA or higher. They will be required to submit a two page essay detailing their culinary career goals as well as two letters of personal reference. Anyone who is in their last year of high school or beyond may apply for a Culinary Trust scholarship.
Culinary scholarships give students the opportunity to go to their chosen school, learn from distinguished teachers, work with accomplished chef, and sometimes even to travel to destinations throughout the world. As well, they will be exposed to a wide variety of culinary tastes and styles.
