West Virginia University - College

West Virginia University

West Virginia University hopes to create a learning environment where students will acquire the essential knowledge and skills in their majors to excel in their careers or to succeed in graduate or professional schools. The school aims to help them do this through hands-on exposure to the latest technology, providing unique research opportunities, giving them a broad understanding of the humanities, arts and natural sciences, and by preparing them to serve as leaders and responsible citizens.

West Virginia University was founded in 1867 with the help of the Morrill Act, a land grant act to help colleges. The school was originally known as the Agricultural College of West Virginia, though the name was changed soon after in 1868. Today the university’s main campus is in Morgantown, West Virginia, though there are several other campuses located in Charleston, Keyser, Montgomery and Parkersburg.

The school has an impressive academic record for both students and programs of study. The school has produced students who’ve been honored as Rhodes Scholars, Goldwater Scholars, Truman Scholars, as well as contributing five members to USA Today 's All-USA College Academic First Team. Students will also find that the school has a Forensics department that is nationally recognized. The program also works in partnership with the FBI and is accredited by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.

Extended Learning at West Virginia University allows students to earn degrees on much more flexible terms than what would otherwise be possible. Students may even be able to gain college credit for relevant work experience. The school offers over 30 degrees online in both undergraduate and graduate levels.
