Iowa Central College’s mission is to provide students with affordable, accessible, adapted and community-centered programs to help them achieve excellence both in and out of the classroom. The school aims to meet the needs of a diverse group of students in a changing regional and global environment and to make classes and education flexible to meet the needs of the individual and the community.
Iowa Central College began as a combination of three existing junior colleges in 1966, and was founded to help bring educational opportunities to several Iowa counties. The main campus is located in Fort Dodge, Iowa, but there are also smaller campuses in Webster City and Storm Lake as well as an online degree program.
The school offers students the ability to pursue studies in a variety of areas whether they are looking for career training, general education, personal enrichment, economic development or simple adult education programs. More athletic students will also appreciate the opportunities offered by Iowa Central. The school has 16 varsity programs-- more than most community colleges-- so that students can engage in sports ranging from football to rodeo.
Iowa Central offers several options for students to study online. FlexNet courses allow students to enroll at any time during the semester with the caveat that classes must be completed in a 15 week period following enrollment. Another option is to take standard online courses which begin and end with the school semesters. Guided Self Study programs are also available, and students will receive a packet of information in the mail which they will complete and mail back to the instructor by the end of the semester. Finally, students can engage in virtual classes where students and instructors can communicate live through the internet. Content is distributed both live and in a recording for students to view.
