Graceland University hopes to bring together students from all backgrounds, ages, races, and religions to engage in thoughtful education and career advancement to enrich their lives. The university tries to design a curriculum that embraces different styles of learning as well as career-oriented practical experiences to help students to become competent professionals. While based on the Christian values of human dignity, mutual respect, and social responsibility, Graceland welcomes persons of all faiths, and the school is committed to the right to the pursuit of knowledge for all people.
Graceland University was founded in 1895 and is affiliated with the Community of Christ, formerly known as the Church of Latter Day Saints. The school has two campuses, one in Independence, Missouri, and one in Lamoni, Iowa. The main campus is at the Iowa location and houses the School of Nursing, undergraduate and graduate programs in education and Community of Christ Seminary. The school also offers a satellite school program that offers classes at area community college sites around Missouri and Iowa.
The school is known for its Center for the Study of the Korean War, the largest Korean War archive in the United States, located at the Independence, Missouri, campus. Students interested in business and entrepreneurship will find that the school also offers opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. The school’s division of the Students In Free Enterprise group took second prize at the world cup competition in Paris, France in 2006.
Graceland University offers an online program called the Global Campus that enrollsstudents no matter their physical location respective to the school. The school uses an eCollege program that allows students convenience and the support of technical help 24/7. Online degree programs are offered in both Education and Nursing, and programs online are all approved by the campus divisions. Students can earn Master's degrees in Education or Nursing or a Bachelor's in Healthcare. Programs are also available to help students become Registered Nurses.
