The mission of Colorado Technical University is to provide career-driven education by teaching applied, real-world, industry-relevant programs. The school also hopes to serve the needs of students for employment and career advancement and the needs of industry for highly qualified professionals at all degree levels. The school is aso committed to continuously improving its learning and teaching effectiveness and ensuring that high-tech education is intermixed with high-touch customer service ability.

The university was founded in 1965 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the main campus of the school resides there today. The school was originally a technical training school, but today provides degrees from Bachelor's to Doctorate levels. The school also has a number of other campuses located in Denver and Pueblo, Colorado; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and North Kansas City, Missouri, as well as a thriving online school for distance learners.

Colorado Tech is dedicated to helping students and working professionals gain a competitive edge in the working world, strive for new levels of career advancement and gain academic accomplishments to add to their credentials. The school is primarily based in online education, allowing those with busy schedules and family commitments to more easily fit continued education into their lifestyles.
