Maine Universities, Accredited Colleges, and Degrees

Unlike many U.S. states, Maine does not have a commission or board dedicated to postsecondary education. Rather, Maine's Department of Education is responsible for education from pre-kindergarten through the bachelor's degree. To encourage Maine students to stay informed on their college and university choices, as well as their financial aid options, the Department of Education provides higher education information on its website. Among the resources is information on accreditation and diploma mills. The website also contains information about distance learning, to help students determine whether or not online education will work for them.
