Student loans only pay for a limited amount of the cost, and freshmen receive less than upperclassmen. This scholarship is strictly a merit based scholarship that is designed to be an incentive for the most outstanding students in Ohio to stay in Ohio and attend college. It will provide $2205 per year for four years to students in undergraduate programs. It is a competitive scholarship. Students must apply for the scholarship no later than February 23. The application is handled through the student’s guidance office at school. In order to determine if a student will receive the scholarship, the student’s GPA and ACT score will be considered.
The Ohio College Opportunity Grant is available to students in Ohio. This is a need based grant awarded to students who are entering freshman. The award is given to students who have filed papers with the Financial Aid Office at the college or university that they plan to use the grant at. For students enrolled at a private college, they will receive $4992 per year. Students in a public university or college will receive $2496 per year. Students in a proprietary institution will receive $3996 per year.
