The state of Ohio has more than great football and sandwiches. Ohio has students who need help paying for college. Scholarships are very often the only way that some students will be able to afford to pay for their college educations. In the state of Ohio, there are certainly students who need scholarships. Student loans only pay for a limited amount of the cost, and freshmen receive less than upperclassmen. This means that to get to the point that students are eligible for more in federal student loans, which they must manage to pay for the first two years first. This can create quite a conundrum without scholarships. Very often, students will find that different states will offer scholarships that are not offered to students or residents in any other state. Ohio residents can there are many scholarships available to them. One of these scholarships is the Ohio Academic Scholarship. This scholarship is strictly a merit based scholarship that is designed to be an incentive for the most outstanding students in Ohio to stay in Ohio and attend college. It will provide $2205 per year for four years to students in undergraduate programs. It is a competitive scholarship. Students must apply for the scholarship no later than February 23. The application is handled through the student’s guidance office at school. In order to determine if a student will receive the scholarship, the student’s GPA and ACT score will be considered.

The Ohio College Opportunity Grant is available to students in Ohio. This is a need based grant awarded to students who are entering freshman. The award is given to students who have filed papers with the Financial Aid Office at the college or university that they plan to use the grant at. For students enrolled at a private college, they will receive $4992 per year. Students in a public university or college will receive $2496 per year. Students in a proprietary institution will receive $3996 per year.
