Montana Scholarships

Students in the state of Montana have more to do than just enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery while kayaking, hiking, and snowboarding. Students in Montana need to attend school in order to be student. This can be a tricky thing for the under funded college student. That’s why it’s important to find scholarships. In the state of Montana, there are certainly students who need scholarships. Federal student loans, such as the Stafford Loan or the Perkins Loan, only pay for a limited amount of the cost, and freshmen receive less than upperclassmen. This means that to get to the point that students are eligible for more in federal student loans, which they must manage to pay for the first two years first. This can create quite a conundrum without scholarships. Very often, students will find that different states will offer scholarships that are not offered to students or residents in any other state. In the state of Montana this is true like it is for anywhere else.

Students in Montana can apply for The Governor's Postsecondary Scholarship. This scholarship is available in order to provide Montana residents with greater access to postsecondary institutions and private colleges in Montana. By providing scholarship grants based on academic achievement and financial need, the state can alleviate student debt burdens. This will allow more Montanans to stay in the state upon graduation. Students eligible for this scholarship must be accepted by an eligible Montana postsecondary institution for full time enrollment. The student must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The students must not have an expected family contribution exceeding the cost of attendance at the postsecondary institution the student will attend. The student must not have been awarded a Montana University System Honor Scholarship.

Male students have to meet the Title IV selective service requirements. Students cannot be in default on a Title IV or state of Montana education loan. The student cannot owe a refund to a federal title IV or state of Montana student financial aid program. The scholarship is only open to residents of the state of Montana (Board of Regents Policy 940.1). This scholarship is not open to students who are incarcerated. This scholarship is only open to entering freshmen at qualifying Montana postsecondary institutions, and students must be seeking a first certificate, associate, or baccalaureate degree. Students must use the scholarship within nine months after high school graduation at any Montana University System Campus or Tribal College. Recipients of this scholarship must complete 30 semester hours at the end of each college school year, and they must maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA at the end of each year of college.
