Mississippi Scholarships

For those considering continuing their education beyond high school it is imperative to recognize all of the opportunities for financial assistance that are available to them. When calculating expenses for a college or university degree it is important to be aware of the relevance that student financial aid can play in adding up the total costs. For instance, there are many Mississippi scholarships that are available to prospective students should they wish to study beyond high school in that state. Mississippi has hundreds of scholarships and awards that are available to those entering either specialized or general fields of study.

Mississippi scholarships come in all different forms. One of the most prominent awards is the Higher Education Legislative Plan (HELP)which is available to students attending either four year colleges or universities. Eligible applicants must be residents of Mississippi and either a freshmen or sophomore student that has graduated from high school within the past two years. Applicants must demonstrate financial need based on federal standards which currently stand at a family income of less that thirty six thousand five hundred dollars annually over the past two years. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and be enrolled full time at a Mississippi college or university. As well, a score of 20 or higher is required on the ACT. High school students are not considered and this scholarship is available only to United States citizens. As with most income based grants, a financial needs analysis is also required along with transcripts and test scores. .

Another of the popular Mississippi scholarships is the Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant, which is available to four years college and university students. It is an award for high school seniors who are residents of Mississippi. Successful applicants must have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher over seven semesters in high school while at the same time recording a score of 29 or higher on the ACT. Recipients must enroll full time at an eligible university or college as well as being current United States citizens. A maximum award of twenty five hundred dollars is available to those who are eligible.
