For those students wishing to continue their education beyond high school in the state of Maine there are plenty of options available when it comes to qualifying for one the many different financial aid packages available. There is an abundance of Maine scholarships made accessible to all of the state’s students which makes finding the one that is right for you somewhat difficult but never impossible. One of the most popular Maine scholarships awarded annually is the Maine State Grant which is available to those attending four year colleges, two year colleges, or any qualified Maine university. The Maine State Grant is a scholarship for residents attending an eligible school on a full time basis. Anyone seeking this grant must apply annually as the award is based on need however there is a one time grant of between five hundred and twelve hundred and fifty dollars for those seeking an undergraduate degree. As the scholarship is based on necessity any person applying must be eligible for federal student aid and a financial need analysis is also required. The maximum number of grants is capped at twelve thousand and five hundred per year with a minimum of eight thousand and nine hundred recipients.
Another of the many Maine scholarships is the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program which is funded jointly by both the state of Maine and the federal government of the United States. It is a renewable scholarship that is merit based and offers graduating high school seniors an amount of up to fifteen hundred dollars annually. The primary criterion for this award is superior academic performance in high school. Applicants must also be citizens of the United States. High School transcripts, profiles and a written essay are also a part of the application process. There are only thirty of these scholarships available throughout the state of Maine paying out a total of fifteen hundred dollars to each successful candidate making for plenty of competition.
