Georgia Scholarships

In the state of Georgia, hard working students who excel in school are rewarded for their efforts. Their hard work can pay off in the form of Georgia scholarships, which can be applied to colleges, universities, and vocational schools throughout the state. These scholarships can mean a lot to students who have limited access to financial options for paying for their post-secondary education. Georgia scholarships like these means that students may not have to work part time jobs while they are in school and are able to give their academic work the attention that it requires.

A good starting point for Georgia students who are seeking to find information about scholarships is the Georgia Student Finance Commission. The Georgia Student Finance Commission gives students several scholarship options to choose from. One of these is the Governor's Scholarship. This scholarship can be applied to students who are attending two or four year programs at colleges and universities. Georgia valedictorians, salutatorians, STAR students, and Georgia scholars are applicable for this scholarship program. They must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA and be a full time student. Up to 3000 awards may be given out to students with a maximum value of $1,000. Applicants should include a copy of their transcripts with their application form.

The HOPE (Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally) program is another scholarship option for students in the state of Georgia. College graduates who are attending a two or four year program at an accredited Georgia institution are eligible. The grant can be used to cover tuition and fees related to the student's education. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required and the scholarship can be renewed as long as the student maintains their GPA. Recipients of this award can receive anywhere between $300 and $3,900. Up to 170,000 awards may be issued.

Students may find other Georgia scholarships that are suited more towards their field of study. They may also find that they are qualified to apply for minority or special needs scholarships. Those who are awarded Georgia scholarships as a result of their hard work will find that at least one of the stresses of post-secondary education is relieved when they are able to minimize their educational expenses.
