There are many educational paths available for those who are looking to learn a craft or move into a new career. Some choose the university path while others would rather avoid long term educational paths. For those who would rather spend less time at school before they get out into the workforce, scholarships are just as important. This applies equally well to Cosmetology students. Cosmetology scholarships allow students to focus on their education and maintain a life outside of school without having to endure the stress of a part time job.
One place that awards cosmetology scholarships is the National Cosmetic Association. The NCA Sally Beauty Scholarships awards $1000 to ten students each year. Five of the scholarships are awarded to high school graduates that are 26 years of age or younger. Three scholarships are reserved for current members and children or grandchildren of current NCA members receive the last two scholarships. The applicants for these scholarships must include two letters of reference and a 250 word essay detailing how they will benefit from the scholarship and what makes them suitable for it.
African American Cosmetology students may also wish to apply for scholarships through the American Health and Beauty Aids Institute. Each year, $5,000 in cosmetology scholarships are awarded to student who have an 85% average and have completed a minimum of 300 credit hours in high school. The scholarships are awarded in the amounts of $250 and $500. They also take into considerations things like extracurricular activities, previous competitions and awards, and attendance records. Applicants must be currently enrolled in or accepted by a State Approved Cosmetic Art Training facility before the application for scholarship will be accepted. This scholarship is transferred directly to the institute of learning and is not transferable as cash.
There are many cosmetology scholarships that future cosmetologists can take advantage of and aid them in their education. Scholarships like the ones already mentioned and the many others that can be obtained throughout the United States can give student the advantage they need to get everything they can out of their learning experience. By removing some of the financial stress they can excel in school and be more prepared for their future career.
