Online Degrees
Why Choose an Online Degree?
The cost of attending college is higher than ever. Tuition and fees for private four-year schools rose 4.4 percent, while public universities experienced a six percent hike, according to an article in CNNMoney. The sticker shock of attending college has thousands of employers and students looking for alternatives in the world of higher education. Many more students now have to work to pay for school, and employed adults are also diving into higher education as a means of job security. Yet, those who are too busy or financially incapable of attending a traditional campus university can still earn a college degree with online education.
Online classes are cheaper to produce, as one instructor can teach several more courses online than in classrooms. As a result, online students typically pay less for those classes. For example, an online degree from Northeastern University, a private school, costs about $42,780, less than half the price of attending the institution as a campus student.
Another benefit of obtaining an online education is convenience. A traditional campus university requires students to report to classrooms for several hours each day, which can be near impossible for busy adults. Online colleges offer students a chance to earn a degree without the hassle of commuting to a campus. They can still keep their regular responsibilities and learn on the side from the convenience of their own homes. Most online classes can also be done at any time, so students can log in to view lectures and complete their coursework at the hours most convenient to them. As more and more universities join the online education movement, accredited online schools are becoming increasingly accepted by other educational institutions as well as employers.
