Distance Learning & Online Writing Degree Programs
A degree in writing provides the graduate with a wide range of professional opportunities in a huge number of careers. Graduates may find work as copywriters, ghost writers, editors, journalists, creative writers or authors, technical writers or writers for web designers or even as bloggers. A writing degree will often focus on one particular area of genre including children's stories, poetry, non-fiction, science fiction or music and song lyrics. Many writers will specialize in one type of writing such as advertising, informational writing or even writing for children's books or publications. Some web sites or freelance writing possibilities for speechwriters or document writers may also a great career choice. Writers are often able to work from home or from a remote location that allows them to set their own hours and pick and choose from assignments and projects. Writing courses will include information on topics such as composition, literature, historical literature and writing trends, writing in different genres, grammar, ethical issues and studies of great literary works. Students will select electives that allow them to gain the skills and knowledge needed to focus on the various aspects of writing that are of interest to them.
Writing courses will also allow students to develop skills needed for computer literacy, using online search engines and databases, using various software programs, word processing and presentation programs as well as possibly including web design or management.
