Distance Learning & Online Technical Writing Degree Programs
A course of study in photography is more than just learning how to use a camera. Students in photography courses will learn complex issues such as lighting, composition, use and care of equipment, calculations for various issues such as shutter speed and action photography, as well as understand the science behind photography and photo development. Students will have opportunities to learn the theory behind capturing memorable images and what makes a photographer an artist as opposed to just a person that is in the right spot at the right time. Many courses will include the history and study of famous photographers from around the world and give student the opportunity to experiment with some of the styles and techniques used by these artists.
Students that graduate from a program of study in photography can be employed in a variety of fields. Advertising, publishing and marketing companies often hire staff photographers. Photojournalists, photographers and cameramen often have extensive formal training in photography. Individuals may also choose to work in a particular area of photography such as sports, special events, nature or animal photography or even focus on school photography, wedding photography or even reconstruction of photographs. In addition students will learn about lighting for the various types of photography environments, how to use equipment such as light meters and studio settings and how to set-up a photography studio. Some students may also choose to focus on developing film and the various techniques that can be used.
Students will also become familiar with new digital photography, software programs to enhance and modify digital imagining as well as storage and production of digital images. They will use advance software programs to learn to create and enhance images. Information on business management, entrepreneurship in photography and developing a photography portfolio will be introduced in many of the programs and classes.
