Distance Learning & Online Teacher Licensure Degree Programs
Practically all states require that those individuals hired as full time teachers within classroom settings be licensed in the state that they teach. Licensure is typically granted through the successful completion of a licensure examination that is administered, graded and accepted or declined by a governing agency in the state, usually through the department of education. Teachers completing the licensure will then be considered certified or licensed and are allowed to apply for teaching positions within that state.
To assist those that already have a bachelor degree in teaching or a related field the teacher licensure programs provide the necessary educational component to complete the various state licensure examinations for teachers. Typically these programs are completed by those professionals that already have a strong background within one professional area but are lacking the specific educational degree to allow them to teach. The courses cover the potential student deficit areas in topics such as school governance, laws, ethical issues, teaching methodologies, evaluation and assessment of students and other required information. This may also be the case for those current or professional teachers that are transferring from another country or state and wish to be current and up-to-date on issues within the educational field before writing the licensure examination.
Most of the programs of study for a teacher licensure examination will use the experiences of the classroom teacher or allow them to use examples from actual events or scenarios within schools. The courses allow students to learn about various teaching strategies, learning and educational philosophies and methods as well as understand the legal and regulatory aspects of teaching at the various levels. Teachers with licensure are eligible for increased pay grades, continuing contracts and opportunities to advance within the leadership within the school.
