Distance Learning & Online Systems Engineering Degree Programs

In most advanced method production companies, businesses or manufacturing plants there are a variety of processes or systems that must work together in harmony or unison to result in the completion or production of the item or service. A degree in system engineering prepares the graduate with the skills and education needed to be able to handle multifaceted aspects of a system to ensure that efficiency and productivity is as high as possible. A system engineer must have very high level communication skills, an ability to focus on details as well as the big picture at the same time, as well as a strong background in engineering concepts such as mechanical engineering, electrical or organizational engineering, business management, systems analysis, production line development as well as data collection, research, troubleshooting and problem solving.

Systems engineers are typically employed in manufacturing plants or industries such as the automotive industry, aerospace, oil and gas production or development, agricultural engineering or even environmental engineering. Effective communication is a must for a systems engineer so classes will focus on preparing reports, sharing information and gathering data and information for analysis and evaluation. Strong mathematical and science based knowledge is required so courses will also focus on the use of these disciplines in decision making and evaluation within the field of systems engineering. Leadership skills and management skills will be enhanced through class assignments and projects.

Specific courses within the systems engineering program include topics such as control systems design, operations research, safety and regulatory issues in systems design and engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, technology, advancement math and science as well as management training. Typically systems engineering is only offered at the master level with students requiring both work experience and formal education within a field of engineering before acceptance into the program.
