Distance Learning & Online Supply Chain Management Degree Programs
Graduates of a degree in supply chain management have the ability to understand, plan and evaluate the most effective and efficient methods to ensure that products necessary for the production and marketing of an item are available at the right time and for the right price. The world of supply chain management requires individuals that are able to conceptualize and breakdown projects into their various components, understand the relationship between the various items and the completed product, and have the organizational skills and time management skills to be able to bring the project or job in within the timeline and within budget. Supply chain management can be local, national or international, and often is a component of all three types of business.
Courses in supply chain management include topics such as contracts and acquisitions, inventory control, human resources, team building, effective problem solving, time management, organizational management, sales and marketing as well as strategic planning, finance and accounting issues. Students will be encouraged to develop effective skills in making accurate and appropriate decisions, working as leaders within management teams or as project coordinators or supervisors as well as understanding how to budget and price both raw materials and final products.
Students will have experience in international imports and exports, regulations regarding importing and exporting, developing negotiation and conflict management skills as well as international business and global markets and economies. Some graduates and students may choose to focus on the technology aspect of supply chain management becoming involved in inventory control software, database management or information transferal between various parts of the manufacturing plant or facility. Most supply chain managers start work as assistants or entry level managers before being promoted to more senior level positions with companies or industries.
