Distance Learning & Online RN to BSN Degree Programs
The RN to BSN program allows registered nurses (RN) to move ahead with their education in to the bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) level while still working. Most of these programs focus less on the basic patient care that the registered nurses already have and spend more time on advanced practices and the more administrative aspects of the nursing professional that will be required with the advanced degree. While nurses in the program will be current in their certification they will still receive some medical training and will be able to use these skills under supervision to ensure that they have a strong understanding.
BSN graduates are qualified for entry level management positions in hospital and clinical settings. There are many different options for a BSN graduate to consider and they include informatics or information technology within the ward or unit, head nurse positions, nurse administrator roles, supervisory positions, mentoring roles, health care management within clinics or private practice offices, teaching and public health positions and even in government agencies and regulatory positions within the health care field. Some BSN graduates may also work as research assistants or project coordinators or managers in health care research and study.
Courses in the program can include topics on advance patient care, quality control within hospital and health care systems, organizational structure in health care systems, medical or legal risk management and analysis, informatics and information technology, patient records and privacy issues, ethical issues in health care management, working with diverse populations and communication skills and leadership skill development. Some may also work on databases and database management in record keeping and management. Depending on the area of interest students may focus on one area or take a broader approach to their selections of courses.
