Distance Learning & Online Physical & Health Degree Programs
Courses in the field of physical and health education include more than just how to involve children or adults in exercise and sports. Graduates will learn about human development, basic issues regarding growth, key functions of the major body systems, issues with regards to body shape and size as well as the physiology and function of the human body. Physical and health degrees may be used in for those wishing to enter education systems as physical education teachers, coaches or coaching assistants, but it can also be used for individuals working as private trainers, consultants or even as fitness professionals.
Courses in the program included the study of movement or kinesiology, the study of body shape and composition or morphology, and the study of how the body functions or physiology. In additions courses on exercise development and design, applications of sports with regards to people of different ages and levels of physical development as well as issues regarding sports and those individuals with specialized needs are also addressed throughout the programs. Students may choose to focus or place emphasis on specific areas of the field of physical and health education.
Students that plan to also complete their teaching degree with a major or focus on physical and health education will also be required to complete their general education program. Classes on assessment, evaluation, methodology in teaching health or physical education, supervision, leadership, effective communication and monitoring and supervision are all topics covered in this field. Often students that choose this focus are very athletically inclined themselves or they have a strong background in sports, physical education or in health education or a health related field. Students can also go forward in their education to complete degrees in sports medicine, sports management or as department heads or lead teachers within physical education or health education departments.
