Distance Learning & Online Occupational Safety & Health Degree Programs
Graduates from a program in occupational health and safety can find work in most industry, manufacturing, construction and production companies, plants and businesses. In addition any workplace that has to comply with Workman's Compensation or federal, state or local safety requirements and regulations will usually have a need for employees that are trained in the field. Occupational health and safety graduates may find employment as entry or mid level managers, safety inspectors, government regulators or monitors or union officials and safety officers. Private business, industry and companies as well as governmental agencies all require professionals trained in occupational health and safety issues.
Typically students will start in their educational program with a bachelor level degree in health and safety. They can then advance through to a master level program that would qualify them for many of the consulting and monitoring positions that are offered through private companies or through the government agencies. Investigators and compensation professionals typically have at least a bachelor level degree plus significant experience within the type of industry that they are working in. Policy makers and grievance officials for health and occupational safety within the government or private sector companies typically have a master level training. Since most professionals in the various types of trades, professions and industries will be aware of current technologies regarding occupational health and safety, the classes allows students to understand the rationale behind the various programs that are in place.
Classes within the occupational health and safety program include risk assessments and analysis for working conditions, safety technology, first aid training, safety protocols and procedures, industrial and food service hygiene, effective communication, the use of technology in presentations, legal and ethical issues for private and public companies and agencies with regards to occupational safety and employee health. Compensation calculations, investigations and reporting and documentation will all be covered in more advanced trainings.
