Distance Learning & Online Music Degree Programs
Far from just a simple degree, an associate, bachelor, master or doctorate level program in music will provide the student with the ability to work as a music educator, music therapist, concert or music management, recording and publishing as well as in other music related fields such as recordings and internet music production. Some advanced level graduates also become music historians, music reviewers and sound production consultants. Many graduates with formal music degrees may find employment as sound technicians, music teachers in private settings and as managers of recording studios.
The courses offered in the music program can range from study of a specific genre or type of music through to musical instrument repair. Music composition, sound, electronics and technology in music recording and development, business management, advertising and music and culture are also optional programs of study within the music field. Other classes in management and communication are part of the core work of the class. In addition music appreciation and the impact of music on various cultures, peoples and groups throughout history is a key component of the program.
Many people choose to integrate other fields of study into the music program. Courses on technology, game design, internet music recording, sound system management and sound mixing are often taken as electives within a music program. Since most people with music degrees tend to have an ability to work well with others they often find management positions or work with others in teams or group settings in relation to the music business. Music teachers will require an additional level of training to obtain their teaching certification in either elementary or advanced levels of education. Music therapists will use their musical talents in helping others recover from physical injuries and mental health conditions.
