The courses in the museum studies program include specific training in obtaining, cataloguing, categorizing, preserving, storing and transporting historical artifacts. This includes proper storage mediums for various types of ancient pottery, bones, various types of remains, as well as the reconditioning of artwork, ceramics, pottery and even ancient items used in the everyday life. The work of a curator is more directly related to the work of caring and maintaining the museum quality pieces, while an archivist is more likely to work to record and catalogue the items. Archivists and curators both may use technology such as digital imaging, photography and even x-rays in their day-to-day work.
The courses will start with a general classes but will become more specific as the student moves between the various levels. Students may choose to focus on one aspect of museum studies or a specific aspect of history.
