Distance Learning & Online Manufacturing Engineering Degree Programs
The manufacturing industry is one of the largest in the United States, and manufacturing engineers are responsible for keeping these companies running smoothly and efficiently. There are three main areas or sections involved in manufacturing engineering and they include manufacturing systems and operational research, management and innovation of new products and manufacturing operations management. Graduates of master or above level programs typically tend to find employment in the management aspects of manufacturing engineering whereas bachelor degree and other certification holders tend to work more directly with the daily operations, development and maintenance of the manufacturing systems within a company or production plant.
Classes within the manufacturing engineering program will focus very strongly on the math and scientific research components of engineering. Physics, advanced mathematical applications as well as the use of various technology and computer hardware and software in calculations and design will be stressed. Students will learn both the theory and the practical applications of efficient manufacturing design, development and maintenance. Advanced level courses will focus more heavily on the design and troubleshooting aspects of the career from a management or leadership perspective whereas other programs may focus more specifically on the operational aspects of the career.
The increased use of computers, sensors and technology driven components in manufacturing has lead to the demand for graduates of the program to be well versed and skilled in the most up to date and current technologies available. In the classes students will work with the actual software programs, databases and hardware equipment that is used in the field, providing them with the skills they need when they enter the workforce. In addition communication skills, teamwork, leadership and the ability to work within a group of professionals from different backgrounds will all be covered within the program.
