Distance Learning & Online Internet Technologies Degree Programs
As businesses, companies, government agencies and even private citizens become more reliant on the internet for both information and purchases, the demand for graduates of programs in internet technology will continue to increase. Students in these programs may find employment with companies that work exclusive off the internet, or those that have online stores in conjunction with traditional in-person stores and outlets. Internet technology graduates may also work with companies or individuals in web design, web hosting, web site development or may work with larger internet companies such as eBay, Google, Yahoo or MSN to constantly work with customer technical issues, troubleshooting problems, or dealing with the massive amounts of internet traffic on a daily basis.
A degree in internet technology can range from a diploma course through to a bachelor of arts or science in internet technology. Most of the advanced degrees will cover both internet and intranet problems and issues, and will work with students to develop logical and effective strategies to approaching and solving inter or intranet problems. Students will also learn about the various hardware devices used to connect local area networks or LANs to the internet or larger networks called WANs. This will include the understanding of how to set up and program switches, bridges and routers as well as how to work with static and dynamic IP and resolve networking and internet conflicts.
The classes are all designed to give students a strong theoretical background and to encourage them to use analysis, evaluation and sequential and organized procedures in solving problems and resolving problems. Students that enter web design or e-commerce classes will take additional courses on these topics, in conjunction with the basic courses listed above. Certification in technical areas may be available depending on the courses offered.
