Distance Learning & Online Industrial Engineering Degree Programs
Students that graduate from a program of study in the field of industrial engineering will be able to find work within the many industries and manufacturing companies and businesses both locally and internationally. This engineering specialty involves the design, development and evaluation of the systems used within various industries and focuses on monitoring, improving, problem solving and enhancing these systems to make them more functional and cost effective. Typically industrial engineers will be employed within the industry to help manufacturing and production companies and plants stay competitive or upgrade their current technology to increase production or improve efficiency or flow of product or raw material through the plant or industry.
Graduates of the degree in industrial engineering will usually work in the design and implementation of new systems or the upgrading or modification of existing systems. Both types of projects will be approached by the industrial engineer from an organized, data driven plan that includes math, technology and financial and risk assessments and information. Classes will highlight these aspects of industrial engineering and allow students to apply the theory they learn in the classroom settings to real world experiences and scenarios. Since many students within the program will already work within the field of engineering or industrial engineering they will find the course highly applicable to their current workplace environment.
Students completing bachelor level programs can work as engineers, industrial engineering assistants, or in other positions within the industry. Graduates of master's degrees may find employment as mid to upper level managers, government policy makers or regulators, or even as consultants to industrial companies. With additional education and certification many graduates of the masters program work independently or on a contract to contract basis within the industry, earning extremely competitive wages and choosing the jobs they wish to take on.
