Distance Learning & Online Humanities Degree Programs
A program in humanities allows students to gain insight into many different aspects of art, literature, science and other liberal arts subjects. Courses in criminology, criminal justice, political science, psychology and history are all part of a study of humanities. The course of study is designed to be flexible, allowing the student to generalize across the various subject areas or to focus in on a particular area or areas of interest. Many associates or bachelor level graduates of humanities programs choose to focus and specialize and continue on to higher degrees or to specialize in a bachelor or master level program in one of the areas under the humanities department.
The humanities programs have the greatest number of graduates per year. Courses in the humanities area include journalism, political science, religious studies, history, sociology, languages, literature, communication, music, arts and religion. As students advance through the programs they will specialize in one or more areas, often continuing on to pursue careers in education, law, management and business. Journalists, writers, public relations officers, senior managers and historians often started their educational careers with an associate's degree in humanities. The goal of the humanities program is to allow graduates to have a comprehensive yet personal understanding of how our society has evolved today through the study of religion, arts, music, performing arts, philosophy, culture and classical literature.
Students in humanities learn how culture and civilization has developed over time and from the various influences. The discipline requires that students become analytical and creative thinkers while still using a humanistic approach to interpreting the data and information. The humanities also encourages the understanding of presenting information to people in both written and spoken formats, as well as using technology and new innovations in presentations and projects.
