With the dramatic increase in the popularity of computer, video, handheld and arcade style games the need for designers for new games continues to increase every year. An experienced graduate of a program in game art design can anticipate earnings of between $30,000 and $100,000 per year, depending on the number of projects they are qualified for and their level of specialization. Highly experienced game art designers may work independently or on a project-by-project basis, often being requested by the companies to return to work on other projects as the game evolves or becomes popular.
Courses in the game art design program focus on the practical and theoretical applications of designing, developing and programming a game. Excellent communication skills both in written and verbal form as well as the ability to work in team settings and in leadership roles within a team will be developed throughout the course of study. Students will be encourage to work on group projects that closely resemble the real world experiences of a game art designer.
