Distance Learning & Online Educational Administration Degree Programs
A degree in educational administration is usually offered at the masters or doctoral level, and is designed to prepare already teaching professionals or those in lower level administration positions within schools or school districts to advance to more senior level management and supervisory positions. Educational administration graduates may pursue careers as principals, vice or assistant principles, department heads, deans, educational consultants, superintendents, head office staff or staff or assistants to superintendents of school systems. Those graduates of doctoral level educational administration programs may be employed as superintendents or government supervisors in educational departments and divisions. Often these individuals work on local, state or federal educational program and initiatives. Often educational administration professionals may also work as consultants or advisors to government programs, initiatives or pilot projects.
Courses in educational administration range from management and organizational structure and operation to communication, legal and ethical issues and study of the history of educational policy development. Specific classes on human resource management and supervision, administration theory in school systems, financial management in schools and school districts as well as effective communication in both written and verbal forms will be covered extensively. Graduates of the program will also have both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills pertaining to public relations, multiculturalism and multicultural issues in schools, community involvement and managing and working with and through committees and focus groups.
Classes will be individually molded to meet the needs of the students and will allow flexibility and diversity within the program of study. Students will be encouraged to use examples, scenarios and case studies that closely match their area of study and work to complete projects and assignments. Emphasis will also be developed in the area of leadership, supervision and management in the specialized area of schools and education.
