Distance Learning & Online Educational Leadership Degree Programs
Typically a master or doctorate level program, the educational leadership track allows already working professional teachers to increase their ability to be effective leaders, administrators, department heads or lead teachers in all areas and levels of schools and educational settings. The course is designed to be applicable for teachers in elementary, middle and high school levels as well as those teaching in colleges or as entry level teachers in universities. Often those educators with doctoral level programs in educational leadership work as principals, superintendents, deans, department heads, or consultants or governing officials for school districts or departments of education on state or federal levels.
Graduates of the educational leadership will work on enhancing and developing their ability to effectively communicate and lead others. This can include specific courses on conflict resolution, dialogue and discussion, facilitating meetings, consulting and advising, mentoring and setting policy and procedures. Classes will focus on a research based approach including historical issues, current regulations, policies and educational guidelines, and best practice leadership methods and skills. Students will also learn the most effective hiring and interview techniques and the methods that are most often used for hiring and maintaining quality staff members for an effective educational experience for students.
While theoretical in natural students will still have ample opportunity to apply the theory to real world assignments and projects within the schools that they work. They will also use the latest in technology for research, gathering data, analysis of data and formulation of effective leadership strategies and presentations. Some graduates of the program may choose to focus on a particular set of subjects and develop leadership skills relevant to those curriculum areas to prepare as lead teachers or department heads, depending on the type of school they are working at.
