Distance Learning & Online Economic Crime Degree Programs

Graduates from a program in economic crime will learn the various strategies and techniques used to trace, track and identify the crime that are completed in various government agencies, businesses and companies. Often called white collar crimes, these crimes usually involved sharing of confidential information, misappropriation of money or funds, illegal activity within trading or stock markets, or a wide variety of other similar crimes that do not include violence or violent activities. Much of the work of a professional involved in working with economic crime will be completed through computer searches, database examination, financial record auditing and management of information that is being transferred through company networks or over the internet.

Students that successfully complete a bachelor or master level program in economic crime can find careers in a variety of settings. Some may work as information technology managers or work in hospitals or health care systems as designers and managers of informatics systems. Private and government businesses may hire private economic crime investigators or may use them to help set up new, more secure systems. Finally economic crime graduates may work directly for public or private security services or law enforcement agencies.

Classes in a degree in economic crime will include basic and advanced courses in networking security, financial statements and accounting principles, monitoring and evaluating the security of local and wide area networks, forensic computer examination, corporate policies and procedures, ethics and legal issues in white collar crime and investigative techniques and evidence collection. These courses will be covered first from a theoretical perspective and then from a practical applications approach. Critical thinking, assessment and evaluation as well as evidence interpretation will be key throughout the program of study. Hands-on experience with the various types of economic crime programs and software will be used directly within the classes.
