Distance Learning & Online Early Childhood Education Degree Programs
Graduates of a degree program in the field of early childhood education may find careers in day care settings, Head Start programs, pre-kindergarten or play school settings, as case managers or as investigators for child protective services or other government or community agencies that work with very young children and their health, education and well being. Students that complete the training will learn skills needed in communication and interacting with young children, issues relating to working with very young children, and how to effectively and appropriate communicate with parents and other adults and professionals regarding issues surrounding the child.
Courses in early childhood education will focus on understanding all aspects of working with very young children from child development to grown and milestones in the child's development. Students will also learn about child psychology, appropriate behavior interventions for young children, how to complete observations, assessments and testing of young children as well as how to speak, work with and teach these very small kids. There is the option to complete a two-year diploma or a three-year degree with the degree encompassing more curriculum and administration issues related to managing, planning and running a daycare or early childhood education program.
Students may choose to focus on a particular area of specialization within the early childhood development program including working with children with special needs, working with physically disabled students, or working with English as a second language populations. Those students completing the more advanced levels of training will also take courses on assessment, community and parent involvement and legal and ethical issues in early childhood development. Reporting issues, local, state and federal regulations regarding early childhood development centers will also be included for those students with an interest in administration.
