Distance Learning & Online Construction Management Degree Programs
Entering the highly competitive field of construction or custom building is often difficult without extensive experience and work experience. The degree in construction management allows those students that are interested in this area to enter into positions as project managers, construction company owners or even as foremen or as assistants in architectural and design firms and agencies. The courses are set-up to gradually increase on technical knowledge and skills after theoretical information is provided. Advanced level programs allow students to focus on the specific areas of interest within the construction field either in practical management, sales and marketing, or operational and business management.
Students in the course of study can choose from a wide variety of classes. All students will take basic business management classes that will include operational management, strategic planning, financial planning and management and project coordination and oversight. In addition students can also take ethical classes on management, legal and regulatory classes for construction based businesses, architecture and design, landscaping, engineering, or leadership and management courses. Effective communication, analysis of decision-making and human relations and labor management are also optional courses that many graduates complete.
The emphasis in the program will be to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge that they will need to enter the construction field. While the classes are typically delivered in traditional style the assignments and projects allow students to apply their knowledge to actual case studies and real world scenarios. Students will also gain an appreciation for dealing with customers and clients as well as working with the various professional groups that are needed in either residential or commercial construction. Through classes the students will be able to focus on the various types of construction and choose classes that will be relevant to their desired field of employment within the industry.
