Classes in computer studies are designed with the learner in mind, and are intended to be customized to meet the needs of the students. Classes are taken from a wide and very diverse group of topics that provide the graduate with a strong foundation for understanding the various aspects of technology and its application within business and industry. Students of computer study programs may also include business related courses, multimedia classes or even specific programs with regards to the impact of computers and technology on society or human development and communications and systems change.
With the course of study students may choose from classes in subject areas such as hardware applications, software engineering, computer systems design, networking, graphic design and arts, computer animation, network security, online business and security, web design and development as well as highly specific technical certificate training. These technology certificates may be in specific operating systems such as Microsoft or with specific programming languages such as Java or C++. Computer studies courses can be taken online or through more traditional lecture style courses, but most professionals choose the online option for both experience and easy of completing courses while continuing to work.
Graduates of a program in computer sciences may find work as entry level computer technicians if they obtain the required certificates, as networking technicians, or even as computer or IT resource workers. More advanced level graduates can enter the workforce as entry level managers, project coordinators or managers, or as IT educational professionals. Problem solving, analysis and evaluation in finding and correcting difficulties and issues within computer systems will be addressed in most of the programs. Students planning to work as consultants or with their own IT businesses may also choose various business management, financial and planning courses in conjunction with their computer science degree.
