A career in computer programming is definitely a wonderful idea if you enjoy working with technology and love a challenge. Computer programming requires logical and analytical thinking with a strong mathematical background and understanding of computer programming languages. Graduates of computer programming degrees including associate, bachelor and master level programs typically have little problem finding employment with more advanced degreed graduates working as consultants or senior project managers, coordinators or software verification professionals. Less advanced degree holders typically work as software developers or work with movie, music or video production companies, software game designers, or within various companies and business.
Computer programming classes start with a very specific format. Students will first learn the theory and concepts behind the programming issues and then will proceed in specific coursework designed to allow the student to apply this knowledge in actually computer programming assignments and activities. The courses are set up this way to help the students in problem solving and troubleshooting since they understand the theory, which is typically where the errors are made in developing new computer programs. Software testing courses further enhance these problem solving skills.
Students can also complete specific certifications in various languages including Java and C++. In addition courses in beta testing, software game development, software engineering methodologies, operating systems, web applications, multimedia, multi-player web games and other computer and relevant software design courses will also be included. Students will be allowed and encouraged to specialize in several areas while in the basics courses but then will be able to narrow down their courses once they reach the more advanced stages. Students will learn to work with other professionals in the software design and testing field and to work as team members and leaders in design projects.
