Distance Learning & Online Computer Networking Degree Programs

Most computer networking degrees are offered at the associate or bachelor level with further specialization being required once students enter into the master or higher level courses. Associate and bachelor level computer networking degrees may be taught in an online format that allows students to learn in on a flexible schedule, while traditional classes in lecture style on-campus format are also available. Students will complete basic classes in both computers and networking and then will apply this information to more complex networking application in higher level programs and courses.

Graduates of a program in computer networking typically find work as technicians in large companies, computer based services, or through internet service provider (IPS) systems. A graduate will learn not only how to design and install a computer network within an agency or company, but he or she will also learn how to evaluate and analysis the effectiveness of the system as well as troubleshoot problems and issues should they arise. Larger companies will employ full time computer networking professionals to ensure that the system is properly maintained and upgraded to prevent any lost time due to networking programs.

Classes in the program of study in computer networking will include hardware devices such as routers, switches and bridges and the potential networking difficulties they can cause, computer networking through wireless devices, networking security and security protocols, computer applications and software, sharing files, shared applications and working with various operating systems and programming tools and languages. Emphasis will be place on designing new systems as well as upgrading and modifying existing systems. Students will have the opportunity to work with the various networking programs throughout the course of study to allow them to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical applications in the field of computer networking.
