Graduates of a computer forensics program will have options to work in a variety of fields from networking and security of computer systems through to investigation of computer, economic and internet crimes. Since identity theft and security of online transactions has become more problematic in the last few years and seems to only continue to increase, the demand for those trained in investigation and identification of computer crimes will continue to be in high demand. In addition many companies will hire graduates of computer forensics courses to work in preventative ways, helping to establish security in local area networks and even through e-commerce and e-business sites on the world wide web. Companies that handle large transactions online or multiple small online sales per day or hour typically employ computer forensics professionals to constantly monitor the system to detect any security issues or crimes that are occurring. Banks, financial institutes and government a! gencies all have the same need for privacy and security, and computer forensics professionals have the skills needed to provide this service.

Classes in the program of study in computer forensics will include networking and networking security protocols, encryption, wireless security issues, hardware and software troubleshooting, evaluation and analysis, computer design and repair, basic financial and accounting issues as they apply to money transfers or transactions, fraud, investigative procedures as well as a keen attention to tiny details and irregularities. Students will learn a logical approach to completing investigations and the importance of correct evidence gathering and storage procedures. In classes students will also learn how to prepare to share evidence with other investigators, law enforcement personnel or even in court testimony to juries. Emphasis will be placed on both working in an investigative team but also having leadership skills and effective communication styles.
