Distance Learning & Online Communication Studies Degree Programs
A degree in communication studies is an excellent degree for those students interested in advancing in the business or communication fields. This course of study enhances the effective communication of the graduate in both written and verbal forms, as well as allows students to understand the importance of communication in all aspects of business, administration and management. Graduates of a degree in communication studies can find work as public relations officers or employees, entry to mid level managers, professional trainers, writers, advertising and marketing professionals as well as speechwriters, presenters or lobbyists.
The courses within the communication studies program include specific training in negotiation and conflict management, effective communication and interpersonal skill development, multicultural diversity in communication styles, international and global impact of various types and forms of communication as well as information gathering and research as it relates to forms and styles of communication. Communication throughout history and the changes that various inventions and advances have had on business and personal communication styles will be covered in the courses. The theoretical aspects of the courses allow students to understand the rationale behind the various communication styles and then apply it to real world situations through assignments and projects.
Graduates of the program of communication studies will have ample opportunity to enhance their own communication skills in many different forms. Some students may choose to focus on in-person or face-to-face communication skills whereas others may choose the written aspects of communication as a focus. All students will be encouraged to learn and understand the impact of technology on communication and how technology can be used to enhance communication in global economies and international markets. The importance of communication and the barriers that may develop in communication is the key focus of the program.
